Happy Birthday To Us

August 31, 2012 — 6 Comments

Tomorrow we celebrate Christian Droid’s first birthday.  Not quite knowing what I was getting myself into here, I started this website on September 1, 2011 with a post on Embracing Church Technology.  Over the past year I have learned a lot about how to run a website.  I’ve learned a lot about how not to run a website.  And I have met many virtual friends along the way.

Over the past couple of days I have been pondering why some blogs survive and others do not.  I read when I first started this adventure that the majority of new blogs fade away after about 6 months.  I do know from experience (having learned this myself this past year) that writing a blog on a regular basis is hard work.  Sometimes it is difficult to take the time necessary to write a clear concise post.  It is time consuming to maintain the website.  And it can be a chore to look through dozens of images to find just the right one that you want to work with your post.  But there are two reasons that I think that we have  continued to grow over this past year.

You

Yes, you are one of the reasons that this place exists.  You are the reason that I stay up late sometimes and try to get my point across even when my eyelids are drooping.  You are the reason that I spend the money necessary to continue.  And I thank you.  If it wasn’t for you visiting this site, whether this is your first visit or your 366th (we had a leap day in there this year) I appreciate that you would take the time out of your busy schedule to come and read what I have to say.  I am humbled by your patronage, your comments, and your visits.  Thank you.

God

He is the reason I started this blog.  He is the reason for the success that we have seen.  He is the reason that I did not quit after six months.  I do this in an effort to glorify Him and I hope that something that I might write may one day lead someone to a closer relationship with Him.  I know that it has brought me closer to Him over the past year.  I am grateful for the gifts that He has given me and I thank Him for everything we have accomplished here.  To Him be the glory!

Christian Droid Year One

So what has happened here over the past year?  I compiled a couple of stats to give you the State of the Blog.  I do this to hopefully satisfy a curiosity that some may have as well as to show what God can do when he grabs a country boy with a passion for God and technology and tells him to start writing.  I learned early on in this project not to stare at the stats, so I really don’t know, nor do I care, how this stacks up with others around the universe.  I just know that this is what God has done for us here.

Our Busiest Day

Our busiest day came in February of this year when we were trying to help After Edmund raise some money on Kickstarter to record a new album.  (Which has been recorded and in the final mixing stages btw.)  On February 22nd we announced a contest to name After Edmund’s Biggest Fan.  But the following day, Thursday the 23rd actually edged out the previous day for the all time biggest day here at ChristianDroid.  This date was the final date of their fundraising event and it was also the day that I was able to meet up with the band and break bread with them prior to their concert in Raleigh that night.  We had a great time sharing your stories with the band and celebrating the success of their campaign that night.  I truly do feel like God was able to put us together to help accomplish something great for His Kingdom and I am proud of the small part that we played in His plan.  I know that these young men are truly men of God and I know that they will do great things to further His Kingdom.

Thank You!

There have been many other opportunities that have opened up because of this little blog.  There have been many new people met, many new friends made, and I have learned a lot about myself along the way.  I know that none of what we have done this past year would have been possible without your support and your words of encouragement.  I genuinely thank you for being a part of ChristianDroid.  I look forward to what God has in store for us this next year and I invite you to continue with me on this journey.

  1. Congrats on the one year anniversary Sele. Hope #2 is productive and enjoys God's blessings.

  2. Thanks for a great blog and congratulations! I have to admit I get the email subscription and often don't read timely or in order but your posts have always been good and I really enjoyed the PianoGuys video the other day. You write in a way that I can relate to and I'm happy I accidentally found you when looking for a prayer app for my andoid after having such trouble Googling for CHRISTIAN apps. I've read before (Jon Acuff's book Quitter) that keeping up with a blog is exhausting but can be very rewarding. Keep up the great work and may many more years be in your future!

  3. A belated happy anniversary…may your work continue to bless and inspire…thanks, again, for your friendship!
