All afternoon I have been humming this John Denver song from way back in 1975. I was never a big fan of this song but it was one of the first ones that I learned to play on the guitar. But it has just seemed appropriate this afternoon.
As I walk out my door this afternoon I am greeting by a cacophony of sounds. There is the hum of the traffic, the steady rhythm of jackhammers, and sirens singing off in a distance. The weather is warm and the concrete and buildings seem to make it even warmer. The smells of the city are immediately noticeable as I exit into the afternoon.
Today I am away from home on a business trip. Needless to say, I’m in the city. It is a nice change of pace from what I am used to but only for a couple of days. I already miss walking out my backdoor and smelling the freshly cut grass in the yard. (we don’t have lawns in the country, we have yards.) I miss looking out my window and gazing across the corn field. I miss watching the rabbits play in my grass.
Some of you would look at my home and think “how in the world can you live here.” There are no traffic lights, no city sounds, no store on the corner. But to me it is home. I look at thee city streets and wonder “how can all of these people live here.” There is no grass, there is no corn, I haven’t seen a rabbit (although the shop across the street seems to sell anything that you would want to eat so they may have some, but I’m not checking to see.
Each of us are different. Each of us are individuals. We have our own tastes, we have our own preferences, we like different things. Each of us are made in God’s image but each of us are unique. How cool is that?
We may not agree on everything but there is one thing that we can agree on. We are equal in God’s eyes. You may like the city and that is ok. I prefer a more Green Acres lifestyle. What we can count on is that God is with us wherever we choose to live or travel. He is with us, always.
Thank God I’m a country boy!
Do you prefer park avenue or farm living?
Author note: I will return home later this week so the blog posts will be a little irregular until then. I do appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read what I have written.

Life ain't nothin' but a funny, funny riddle……
Thank God …
Thanks Larry, I knew you would know the song.
I think home is where you park your heart. I live in a small town in Indiana. I have NO desire to live in a big city unless God says, "Go." I prefer my fenced in back YARD and my occasional traffic snafu rather than all day, every day, all night (Journey moment). BTW: We have 3 stop lights-one at each end and on in the middle. Have a great week Sele.
You are exactly right Bill. Home is what you make it, where you make it. I love the Journey moment, made me laugh.
