Post Election Reading List

November 7, 2012 — 7 Comments

Since the 2016 Presidential Campaign has officially started, if you are like me, you are getting a little tired of reading about all of the election results and analysis.  So today I thought I would give you a different kind of reading list; my RSS feed list.  This is a list of the blogs RSS feeds that I subscribe to in my Google Reader account.

If you are unfamiliar with RSS feeds, these feeds update each time a blog creates a new post.  It is the easiest way to keep up with multiple blogs.  There are multiple programs that you can use to manage your RSS feeds, personally, I use Google to manage my feeds.  This allows me to use multiple programs on multiple platforms and they all stay synced with Google.

I have my feeds organized by category so I am listing them here the same way. Clicking on the link will take you to the actual feed in Google reader. Hopefully you might find someone new and interesting to follow.

Top 20 Church Tech Blogs

September 18, 2012 — 6 Comments

Our friends over at ChurchMaghave compiled a list of this year’s top 20 most influential church tech blogs.  Technology is a far-reaching category that covers all aspects of our digital lives from social media, web design, mobile software, and even includes programming.  However, each of the top 20 connect technology to their faith or ministry on a consistent basis.

The survey looked at all aspects of a blog including their page rankings, their social media reach, and obviously their website. These blogs are a great resource for anyone interested in technology and faith.  There are many of these sites that were already included in my daily readings but I have also found some new ones as well.  I hope that you will check out each of these great resources and subscribe to their feeds or visit their sites to see what they have to say about technology and ministry in today’s digital world.

I was honored to be considered for this list and overwhelmed to learn that we have made the top 10.  ChristianDroid is number nine on the list of the Top 20 Church Technology Blogs of 2012.  And considering the blogs that are included in this list, it is an incredible honor to be listed among them.

Social networking has been all the rage on the internet for the past couple of years, the growth of Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ has been overwhelming.  There is hardly anyone left with a computer that does not engage in a conversation with others on some type of social network.  These social networks are changing the way that we communicate with each other.  They are changing the way we gather information about news and other events.  They are even changing the way we talk.

The changes that these social networks are causing in our lives is not always positive, especially from the Christian perspective.  Facebook has become the place to share with close friends those activities in which you are taking part in, sharing your pictures and stories.  Twitter is fast becoming the place to gather news and information, stay up to date on the ramblings of your favorite band or celebrity, or even to let the world know what you had for dinner.   Google+ (for those non-geeks, this is Google’s answer to Facebook) is full of geeky articles (which I love, because I am a geek after all) or stupid videos being shared by your “circles.”  We have become so accustomed to using these networks that we can’t even speak in complete sentences any longer because we are so used to condensing our thoughts for Twitter or text messages.

The problem with all of these current social media giants is that they all make it difficult to engage someone in a meaningful conversation.   Continue Reading…

As most of you know, blog is the commonly used term for weblog.  If you are reading this right now, then you are reading a blog.  Blogs have been around for quite some time now and there are many out there that have turned into very successful businesses, many of which I check on a regular basis.  Since I am a geek, I have read some of these blogs for quite some time; Engadget, Gizmodo, Lifehackers, Boy Genius Report, TUAW just to name a few.  But this post is not about them.  In fact I don’t even consider these blogs any longer.  They have really become news sources.  I look to them just as we look to CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNN for our news, except that they are dedicated to anything dealing with technology.  Continue Reading…
