Archives For eBible

eBible for Android, iOS, and on the webIt could have been enough to gather and publish over 40 different translations of the Bible online. Some may have been content to create one of the fastest, best looking, Bible application for your mobile device. Others may have decided they had done enough when they created web tools for embedding the Holy Scriptures right into your own website. But none of this has come to the mind of the folks over at eBible.com. While creating one of the simplest, easy to use, best looking Bible software online; they have not been content and continue to examine new ways in which your ministry and your people can interact online with the Scriptures.

As you know, I have long been a proponent of the work that they are doing at eBible.com. I have used their embedded Bible here and on our church website since the beginning. I have also used their VerseLink application on both websites as well. VerseLink looks at your page or post and highlights any Scripture reference that appears and allows the actual Scripture verse to pop up whenever a user hovers their cursor over the hyper linked text. For example; just place your cursor over this Scripture reference, John 1:1, to see VerseLink in action. (Note, once this is set up on your website it requires no extra effort, it works automatically.)

But this is old news. What I want to tell you about today is a couple of new innovations that your ministry can now take advantage of at eBible.com.

In anticipation of Apple’s upcoming iPad HD/3 announcement later today, I have assembled a list of must have applications for those who teach the Word of God using their iPad.  I have been using my iPad to help prepare and present my Bible lessons for the past year or so.  During this time there are several applications that have become invaluable in my preparation and presentations.  These are my go-to applications each week:

  1. eBible – If you are going to teach God’s Word, then you must have a copy of the Bible.  YouVersion may be the most popular Bible software for mobile devices and tablets on the market today, but it is not my go to application for reading the Scriptures.  eBible is quick, simple, and reads like a regular book (complete with turning pages on the iPad).  So eBible is my #1 Bible application.  The speed and simplicity make it user-friendly, the tools make it a must have application for Bible teachers. One of my favorite apps for accessing the Holy Bible has just received a huge update for their Android application. eBible has released the full version of their Android application giving you access to your notes and highlights right on your Android device. I have used eBible for some time on all of my iOS devices but now that the full Android version has been released it is now my go to application for Bible reading on my Android phone.

With eBible’s newest Android update you now have access to all of your Bible study notes. Just sign in to the application using your Facebook account or your free eBible account and notes that you create on their website syncs automatically with your Android device. Not only that but full multi-layered highlighting is now supported on the Android platform as well.

The biggest difference between eBible’s Android application and iOS application is the speech functions that are available in the Android version. When you first sign into the application you are taken to a simple screen with a microphone button in the middle and a search bar at the top. Tap the microphone button and say what you want to read, “Psalm 121″ and just like magic the application immediately loads that particular Scripture for you. If the application is unsure what you are asking for you will be presented with a dialog box asking you to make the proper selection: Psalm 12:1 or Psalm 121. Continue Reading…
