The Little One's BibleToday’s children are growing up in a society that is full of technology and instant information. Many toddlers are playing games, reading books, and pecking away at a computer keyboard or tablet before they enter pre-school. What this means to parents and teachers is that if we want to capture their attention while teaching them about Jesus, you must embrace the technology that is available to us today.

If you are the parent of a small child or teach children in the church in any capacity, you certainly should check out The Little One’s Bible. Available for your iPad, kindle Fire, and Nook Color. The Little One’s Bible is the largest illustrated Bible app for kids. I recently had the opportunity to check out this application and I was very impressed. My first thought was, “What a great tool to use to teach Sunday School lessons to toddlers!”

When you open the application on your tablet you are presented with numerous stories from both the Old and New Testaments. You can then choose to share some of the greatest children’s stories in the Scriptures including the story of Noah, Jonah, and the prodigal son. When you choose a story, you are presented with great illustrations that are bright and bold to capture your child’s attention. Along with the illustration a narrative of the story, written for children, allows you to read the story to your young one as your flip through the pages. And flipping through the pages requires just a simple swipe of the screen.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, one of the hottest gifts this year is sure to be a tablet computer. When it comes to choosing the right tablet for your loved one there are many choices to choose from. Today we will take a look at some of those choices and help guide you to making the choice that works best for your special person.

Operating System

The first decision that you must make when it comes to purchasing a tablet is the operating system. There are basically three choices when it comes to your tablet’s operating system; iOS (Apple), Android, or Windows mobile. I really don’t have much experience with the windows mobile tablets and since it is the least popular choice of the three, I will concentrate my recommendations on Android and iOS.

In anticipation of Apple’s upcoming iPad HD/3 announcement later today, I have assembled a list of must have applications for those who teach the Word of God using their iPad.  I have been using my iPad to help prepare and present my Bible lessons for the past year or so.  During this time there are several applications that have become invaluable in my preparation and presentations.  These are my go-to applications each week:

  1. eBible – If you are going to teach God’s Word, then you must have a copy of the Bible.  YouVersion may be the most popular Bible software for mobile devices and tablets on the market today, but it is not my go to application for reading the Scriptures.  eBible is quick, simple, and reads like a regular book (complete with turning pages on the iPad).  So eBible is my #1 Bible application.  The speed and simplicity make it user-friendly, the tools make it a must have application for Bible teachers. iOS 6

The update is now live, you can update your device over the air or by connecting to iTunes.  The update does take a while to process (20 – 25 mins) so remember “Patience is a virtue.”

With all of the attention that the iPhone 5 is receiving it seems as if some have overlooked an important part of this new device; iOS 6.  With the release of the newest iPhone, Apple is once again updating its mobile software.  However, Apple learned the hard way several years ago that releasing a phone and a software update in the same day was not good for their servers or their support teams, so Apple is releasing iOS 6 prior to the release of the iPhone 5.

If you own an iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, the 4th or 5th generation iPod touch, an iPad 2 or iPad 3 (also known as the New iPad, even though it has been out for 6 months) then you will be able to update to the latest Apple iOS sometime today.  With the last upgrade to its software, Apple added the over the air upgrade feature which will allow you to upgrade your device and enjoy the newest features of Apple’s mobile software without plugging your device into a computer.

Since the iPhone has been getting all of the attention I thought we would spend a little time today looking at some of the new changes that Apple has in store for us with iOS 6. Continue Reading…

Have you ever wanted to visit Jerusalem, to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, to worship in some of the holiest sites in the world?  It is a trip that many Christians would like to take but due to economics, politics, or other obstacles, it is a trip that only few will actually be able to take.  That is until now.  Thanks to modern technology that visit to the Holy Land may be closer than you think.

One of the most sacred places in the city of Jerusalem is the Church of The Holy Sepulchre.  This church was built on the site of what is believed to be Golgotha (the place where Jesus was crucified) and it is also said to contain the burial place of Jesus (the Sepulchre).  This church is very important to the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic religions and is considered by these as one of the holiest places in the world.  And now you can visit this amazing church right in the comfort of your lazy boy recliner.

Holy Sepulchre is an application for the iPad that allows you to take an interactive tour of The Church of The Holy Sepulchre.  With amazing graphics and fascinating details about the church, this application gives you the feeling that you have actually visited this holy place. Continue Reading…
