I can still remember the scene, the rush to get everyone underway is finally over, the family is on the airplane, then the mother gets that panic-stricken look on her face as she realizes that she has left her youngest son home alone.  KEVIN!!!!!!

Knowing the outcome of this movie puts a smile on your face as you remember how the family in their haste to make their airline reservations has forgotten one of its own.  The excitement the young blonde haired boy has when he realizes that he now is the king of the castle is just priceless.  As an experienced parent, we can relate to the confusion that has caused this event to occur.  But back in 1990 as the parent of our first born son, it was a little disturbing to think that one day we might be so rattled that we would forget one of our children.  Of course, this is just a movie and as parents we try to pay a little more attention to our children than we do to our luggage. Hitting The Wall

March 22, 2012 — 2 Comments

Have you ever “hit the wall?”  You are running full speed ahead pursuing your goals and then all of a sudden BAM!  The wall  just appears out of nowhere and you run head first into it.  This wall is one of the most securely built structures you will ever find.  It is wide, it is high, it is thick.  It seems to be impenetrable, you can back up and get a running start and try to bust it down but BAM!  It does not move.  You can wander for miles off course trying to get around the wall but it is never-ending.  Of course you can try to scale the wall but without someone to give you a boost it is useless to try.

My wall is made up of self-doubt, apathy, distractions, frustrations and any thing else that keeps me from completing my task.  It is stronger than brick and held together with a mortar mixture of self-pity, blame, and weariness. Continue Reading…

This Bus Will Go!

January 25, 2012 — 3 Comments

You might remember that back in October of last year, Sidewalk Prophets sent out the call for help raising money for the down payment on a new tour bus.  Their VanGo had served them well over the years, but all of the miles were beginning to take its toll.  After being put down on the road multiple times they had decided that something needed to change.  The band needed a safe way for them and their families to travel to the many shows that they do around the country spreading the love of Jesus Christ through their music.

The goal was to raise $30,000 for the down payment during the month of October.  Using kickstarter.com as their method of raising their funds, it was an all or nothing gamble.  If they did not achieve their goal of $30,000 donated they would be left thumbing for rides up and down the interstate.  God’s people opened their hearts and their wallets to this group of ministers and 305 people donated $42,268 in the 31 days of the fundraiser.  These fans of the band were rewarded with an online concert, great incentives, and the knowledge that these young men would be able to travel the country with their families in comfort, style and more importantly safety. Let’s Have Church Online

January 11, 2012 — 7 Comments

If you have ever wanted to use technology to further your ministry without breaking the bank, then today is your lucky day.  You are probably familiar with Lifechurch.tv (and if you are not, then all I have to say is YouVersion) and their propensity to create great products to further spread the Gospel and then give them away.  Well they have done it again.  Church Online is now open for business and just waiting for you to jump on board.

What YouVersion did for making the Bible available to millions, Church Online will do the same for your ministry.

The Church Online Platform is a free tool to help you launch an online ministry. It removes the barrier of technology so churches everywhere can reach the people they are uniquely equipped to reach.  The platform accommodates a variety of events each week, just like your physical church location. Weekend services and mid-week events can be assigned different video streams, slides, and interaction. Events can be scheduled for multiple or single occurrences.  Continue Reading…
